Although Carl Jung regards the feminen as more complex than the masculine, dividing it into two personalities--the maiden and the mother--his archetype remains a reductionist view of womanhood. It centers around the womb as a site for production while simultaneously establishing this notion as a woman’s primary connection to natural cycles. I would like to suggest a female archetype which is not based on biological sex and focusses on destruction rather than creation--woman as nature not because of the biological processes she carries out but because the material of her body is fundamentally a natural one. Through the camouflaging screen of pantyhose she is absorbed into the environment in an un-individualistic, un-anthropocentric, un-gendered manner. Through breaking apart the self she has access to a broader form of existence.
